Dear God,
You love us with a love that I can’t fully comprehend. We often seek it for selfish reasons instead of reflecting it back to You in worship and adoration of You. We don’t deserve Your love, yet You give it freely.
“Your kingdom come; Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” We pray those words without grasping their meaning. How mind-blowing it is to think that Your greatest desire is to see what happens in heaven also happen here on earth. How incomprehensible it is that even a smidgen of Your will transpiring in heaven would manifest itself here on earth. Yet that’s exactly what happened when you sent Your only Son to show us how we can have an eternal relationship with You. Since time immemorial, Jesus has been Your ultimate plan for mankind. And we should respond in worship. Unadultered worship of You joins heaven and earth in glorious harmony.
God Incarnate, You rent the veil between heaven and earth. Split history between BC and AD. Came as a helpless child to a very poor family so no one could say could say they were too low, too simple, too disenfranchised, or too far gone for You to notice them and save them.
While earthly kings jockeyed for world power, hosts of angels burst forth in praise at Your coming. While Rome handed down dictates, You preached the power of eternal matters: repentance, peace, forgiveness, and right relationship with God the Father.
No matter how much we study or pray, our knowledge of You will be incomplete this side of heaven. Yet what we do know of You is enough to put our faith and hope in You—if we take that step.
You reached down to us when we didn’t reach up to You. What wondrous love is this! “Thank you for Your gift” are woefully inadequate words to lay before You.
We receive You into our hearts and rejoice in Your goodness this Christmas season! Amen!

Fernando Ortega’s beautiful, moving rendition of What Wondrous Love Is This
(The best version of this song I’ve ever heard. Did you know this has multiple verses? Each one is equally powerful.)
SPECIAL NOTE:
After the first of the year, we’ll continue the series on Daniel.
